Company History
Stick and Stone was founded in 1999 by Keir Gilbert to undertake metal and timber manufacturing specialising in design inovation to suit customers requirements. The company grew by the acquisition of specialist machinery purchased from large engineering and timber manufacturers in the UK which could no longer compete in a low quality high volume world. Coupled with carefully considered purchases of modern machinery, Stick and Stone are now in a position to undertake all aspects of bespoke manufacturing processes, without the prohibitive costs of computerised machinery which makes small manufacturing uncompetitive.
During the middles of 2005 Keir relaxed his operation of Stick and Stone and was drawn to the high income offered in Project Management on contracts within the UK with particular emphasis on develoment within the HM forces expansion.
Recently, these contracts have been much reduced as a result of the depression and cut backs in goverment spending, with the result that Stick and Stone has now reformed with the addition of Terry Nicholson as Workshop Manager. Terry gained his qualifications as an apprentice at Dorman Long, latterly British Steel before his early retirement in 2007 in order to devote his time to Stick and Stone.
Stick and Stone will produce goods to client specifications using first quality materials and is now supported by the Design Support Manager of products by Sarah Nicholson who is qualified in Architectural design and planning.
Stick and Stone have produced finished articles for a number of prominent builders in the northern area and has project managed the conversion and planning of contracts in ‘change of use’.
